Hi, I am a 35 year old mother of two little girls. Wendy and the team helped me to get my first daughter Heidi to sleep really well when at seven months we were still up several times a night. She now sleeps perfectly. We have recently had another baby girl, and finding it tough going as she doesn't seem to be the best sleeper either.

PUPDCD for 8 month old - settles quickly, but wakes again 20 mins later.

Hi,
Please could I have some advice on frequent night wakings for Polly? She is nearly 8 months old and slept well from 12wks until about 5 months and had stopped night feeding completely. Then a succession of colds, bronchilitus, hunger, wind from weaning etc etc resulted in a regression to either night feeding or of falling asleep on me when she woke in the night. This has always been her default setting when she has had a cold.
I stopped the night feeds completely a few weeks ago once she was on two meals per day, and as of a week ago, we have stopped letting her come into our bed when she wakes at night. We started using PUPDCD, but found that she only really needs one pick-up and then we just rest our hand accross her and say "shush" until she starts sucking her thumb and settling. This happens very quickly, and although she cries when you then leave the room, she settles quickly once you have left. But then often about ten or twenty mins later she starts crying again. This cycle can go on for up to two hours. We usually let her cry for about ten mins before going in again.
I know she isn't hungry or ill because last night, when I finally decided to feed her in desperation, she didn't want any, but started grinning and laughing at me instead!
She always used to be good at settling herself, and still is in the daytime. We have always given her ten mins or so to cry down if she wakes up during her nap or when she goes to bed and it usually works, apart from apparently now during the night!
Her daytime routine is like clockwork - feed btwn 6 - 7am, breakfast at 8am, nap at 9:30 for 30 mins, lunch at 11:45ish, feed and nap from 12:30 - 14:30, tea at 17:00, bath at 18:00 and feed and bed at 19:00.
She is fully breastfed.
Any suggestions gratefully received!
Anna
