Crib to cotbed - any tips for making the move?
Have recently had one-to-one consultancy with Wendy for some sleep issues my 8 month old was having - daytime napping was problematic (and at times non-existent), with waking at night. With controlled crying and a re-establishment of routine, we have had good results and now have much better daytime and nighttime sleeping. And a happier baby!
Liam's on the brink of sitting up unaided, so the move from crib to cotbed is in action. At present it's daytime naps in the cotbed, to get Liam used to the new environment. I am seeking advice to ensure we get this transition right, and don't undo recent good work with Wendy.
He is put down at sign of tired cues, which tend to be around the same time in the morning and afternoon each day. A similar bedtime routine is followed to nighttime sleeps - same cues and even the same musical mobile. All that is different in his naptimes is the location - cotbed rather than crib.
Early observations/concerns show that it takes him around double the time to self-soothe and settle himself to sleep in the cotbed as it does with his crib. Perhaps understandable - different beds can do that to adults! However, the added room in the cotbed (it's about 4 times the sleeping surface area of his crib) enables him to move around more freely, on his back and front... and he's a very mobile, wriggly and determined little man! This seems to keep him very occupied at nap times. He's not at an age/ability where sleep positioners of either harness or 'tube' variety are suitable, but then I don't know whether spatial freedom can actually be a problem in these circumstances!
How can we best progress this move to cotbed, and keep up (reasonably well) a consistency in his sleeping during the transition?
Many thanks
