Safina

I am a first time mother of a gorgeous 5 month old little boy and am just starting to feel normal again after a severe bout of PND. My family and I are desperate to help my little one to learn to settle himself without his dummy so we can all get a better night's sleep. My low moods are linked to prolonged periods of sleep deprivation and so to be a better mum, I want to do everything I can to help my baby to sleep better and as a result be a healthier, happier mum with a healthier, happier little boy.

Topic: Pregnant again!

Pregnant again!

Hi there

Isaak has just turned 10 months and I found out I am pregnant again...Isaak has still been waking early from between 4.30-5.30 regardless of how little or long he sleeps in the day. I have cut his day naps right down and I have to say that there is absolutely no real consistency to his night sleep at all. On the odd day, he will sleep 11 hours, but generally he sleeps 9.5 to 10.5 hours even with 2 x 1 hour naps in the day.

My husband and I have been rigidly consistent in that we never pick him up before 7am (unless he's crying from teething pains). Anyway, we're still trudging along and ignoring his cries for as long as possible before going to him in the early mornings.

I guess the reason I'm writing here again is because I'm extremely worried. I have pretty much recovered from the PND but I know it was triggered and aggravated by weeks and months of sleep deprivation. With a new baby coming along, I want to start good sleeping habits from Day 1. I'm happy to pay for a consultation fairly early on to get things on the right track if necessary. Are there any things I should keep in mind for encouraging good sleep habits for the new baby when he/she comes along? I know it's a way off yet, but it has really been playing on my mind and I just don't want to have to go through weeks of 'crying it out' all over again. It breaks my heart even now when Isaak cries himself to sleep.

Aside from these concerns, I am actually really happy and excited about the new baby now I have my head around the idea!
