Not so good at going off to sleep and also disturbed night's sleep more frequent
Hello, my daughter is just over 2. I used the Sleep System techniques and a couple of consultations to successfully help her to get herself off to sleep and stay asleep until about 6am ish. She's never been a good sleeper - we have probably hit the holy grail of 7am wake up less than 10 times since she's been trained. However, Isabella used to be really good at going to sleep - sometimes even asking to skip the bedtime story so she could go straight into her cot. For a few weeks now, she's started to fuss and wants me to sit by her bed until she falls asleep. I have strongly resisted this as I don't want to be a prop and so I agree to sit by her cot for a couple of minutes before I leave the room - making sure she is still awake. Sometimes, she goes straight to sleep - sometimes she won't and we have to do CC for up to 40 mins.
Then we have the problem of her waking in the night. This can be at any time from midnight to 5am and if it happens at 5am she won't go back to sleep and screams herself into a state. If it happens in the middle of the night, she is generally tired enough to want to go back to sleep but often demands that I stay with her. I am pregnant but still at work so I have sat with her for a few minutes - always trying to leave whilst she is still awake. Mostly, that will be it and she will go back to sleep until morning - any time between 6am and 6.45am. Sometimes she will wake again.
She goes to nursery 4 days a week and naps for about an hour and an half a day between 12.30 and 2pm. When she is at home, I try not to let her nap for longer than an hour and 15 mins and rarely beyond 3pm and I like to have her in bed between 7 and 7.15pm.
Is there anything I could be doing to encourage her to sleep through properly again? I would love to get her sleeping in a single bed before the baby comes in May but don't want to make things harder for myself!!!
