Dropping last daytime nap
My eldest son who turns 3 at the end of the month has always been an early riser with a wake-up time of at worst 5.15 and at best 6.30. He is usually asleep by 7.30pm at the latest and has always had a good routine with no problems going to sleep at bedtime. He recently has had a few nightmares but when he wakes in the night he usually settles back to sleep quickly.
At times, the early waking has been exhausting but as he naps well and still has 1.5 hours in the middle of the day we've always just accepted it. I would however say that he often seems tired throughout the day. I find myself regularly excusing his grumpy moods because 'he's tired'.
Recently he slept until at least 7am for five mornings on the trot and seemed like a different child! On these days he was very difficult to nap at lunchtimes so I dropped his nap. We finally thought we'd cracked the early waking but then he had a bad night and we were back to a 6.00 waking again. As I say I know this is not especially early but what concerns me is that he's clearly tired most of the time.
His routine looks like this:
6.00 wake
7.00 breakfast
9.00 nursery
12.00 home
12.30 lunch
1.30 nap
3.00 wake
5.00 tea
6.00 milk
7.00 bed
7.30 asleep
Do you think it's time to drop the lunchtime nap for good? How would we do this?
thanks
