Gradual withdrawal- is it really working?
Hi there,
This is my first post so feeling rather nervous :-)
Any help would be most welcome...Our little girl Molly is 2yrs 9months and has so far been a pretty good sleeper..that was until recently...
Our problems started just before christmas and she started waking loads during the night and shouting/crying angrily for me. If my husband dared to go in she has been truly horrible to him, screaming at him to get out and shouting for me. I suspect this could be separation anxiety due to my pregnancy!?! We are, therefore, taking extra care to make a fuss of her and tell her what a good big sister she'll be and calling it 'our baby' etc.
I spoke to the health visitor who recommended the GW technique as CC really hasn't worked as she ends up getting in such a state that she is really sick in her bed-horrible :-(
We have been following GW for three weeks now-it has certainly got worse before any real signs of improvement..no idea how long we should continue for!?!
The chair is now in the door way to her room with nightlights on (the Lindam ones) and Gro clock on (she doesn't seem to pay much attention to this) and landing light off. She usually settles within 30 mins at 7.30ish but is waking several times in the night and shouting/demanding me. She continues to NOT want daddy and it makes things far worse if he tries to go in as she gets in a state and takes forever to settle. This is horrible for him as he's wonderful and is so willing to help. It's really getting him down.
My concern is that she has become reliant on me to be there when she wakes. She is such a lovely little girl and is very active during the day. She cut out all naps at 1 years old-my fault as I was apparently the same. She is also a fussy eater. I make sure she has a multi vitamin every day and she stil has a bottle of milk in the am and pm. She absolutely LOVES it. I make sure she doesn't fall asleep on it!
