Is Phase 2 a prop and dealing with rolling over in PUPDCD
Hi
We did a 1 week consultation with Wendy just after Christmas to get our daughter Beatrix sleeping on her own in her cot. We used PUPDCD and I think we did make some progress but it's all gone a bit wrong again over a period of weeks and now I am back to having only 4 hours sleep. Hope someone can help us with some questions as we try to do a second round of sleep training...
Shussh/pat:
After the consultation we had a successful week and she got to the point where she would only grunt and groan when I put her down, so I moved straight to Phase 2 - shussh pat and she would go to sleep.
But 10 mins of shussh pat turned over a couple of weeks to hours of shussh pat - in one case 3 hours. She will look like she is alseep, I'll get into bed, and she'd be awake after 2-3 mins, so I go back and start shusshing again. I also started singing to her instead of shusshing as this will immediately stop her crying, but this means that on several occasions I have sung Old Macdonald for 2 hours plus. She is clearly using this as a prop, as there is no self soothing involved - should I refrain from using Phase 2 at all???
Rolling over: Starting 6 weeks ago at some point Beatrix will roll onto her front during the night, as this is always how i find her when she wakes. This evolved so that 2 weeks back, whenever I left her to cry she turn onto her front and immediately go to sleep. I asked my HV and she said that if she is old enough to roll I should leave her on her front. Indeed she is starting to try to crawl and has always been very strong on her front. But in the last couple of days, rather than falling asleep when she rolls onto her front, she becomes increasingly distressed trying to crawl and getting annoyed that she can't. What should i do during CD when she does this? leave her? roll her over?
Essentially, our problem is that if I leave her to cry, she rolls over and gets very upset. If I shussh her instead, I am there for hours...
