My 6 month old is waking early, through the night and taking short day naps
Hi there. We're having real trouble reversing some bad habits in our 6 month old son and need your help! After a long period of extreme teething followed by a cough and cold, we were rocking him to sleep every time he woke up, plus I was breastfeeding him several times a night. He was then waking up so frequently in the night, either to be fed or rocked back to sleep.
So, we bought the book and for the past two weeks we have been using the PUPDCD method which was starting to decrease the amount of night wakings, but he's now waking at 5.15am every morning! We do put him down at night by 6.30pm, only because he naps so badly during the day (he totally fights sleep and will generally have two 30-45 mins naps, but often just one) and is so shattered by 6pm it's a struggle to keep him awake that long!! He will nap really well in his pram or out in the car, but I'm reluctant to get into the habit of him napping only this way.
We started weaning at 5 months (so for just over a month now) but quite gently so we're only just onto three 'meals' a day, but he's still only taking a small amount of food. I'm also still breastfeeding apart from one bottle during the day and unsure if he's generally hungry in the night for food or just comfort.
I guess I need to know - should I be confident to cut the night feeds out altogether? Should I be patient about the daytime naps until the nights are sorted? And how can I help him sleep longer?! Thank you
