Daytime feeding patterns
We have just ordered your book and are getting a few things in place before we start on some of the strategies you suggest. One question I have is about daytime feeding patterns. Max is 5 and a half months and we have been introducing solids over the last two weeks, generally following weaning guidance from books like Annabel Karmel. He feeds every 4 hours during the day and at the moment I breast feed him for about 20 mins (or longer if he seems to need it) and then follow that with a fruit or vegetable puree at the conventional breakfast, lunch and tea times. In the book, you suggest that milk feeds should be given between solids rather than at the same sitting. Is this essential to the success of the plan? It feels like we would be taking a backwards step if we were to start feeding him every 2 hours again, albeit alternating between milk and solids. It would be helpful to knowing the thinking behind this and whether or not you think we could/should stick with the system we currently have.
For reference: Max wakes twice a night (approx. 23.00 and then 03.00, waking at approx. 06.00) and we feed him both times. He often does not settle well between feeds and it can take up to an hour to get him to stay asleep in his cot afterwards. Our objective is to get him sleeping through the night.
