Why does my baby thrash his head from side to side whilst trying to get to sleep?
I really don't know what to do!!! My little one has always struggled in the sleep department; for months he would wake every hour and have to be rocked or breast fed back to sleep. However, about 6 weeks ago I found that after his nighttime bottle (formula milk: suggested by my health visitor to help him sleep longer, this did not work but I found that because I am only feeding on one side, the bottle gave me a little break so I have kept with it) I could put him in his cot and with gentle ssshhhing and some singing he could get himself off to sleep - however, he still woke every hour, but I still was able to get him back to sleep without picking him up.
He feeds every four hours and this continous through the night and eventually he was only waking for a feed.
However, over the last week things have seemed to have gone backwards; waking every hour and screaming and it can take anything from 2 minutes to 3 hours to settle him (I dont pick him up)
I have noticed that before he finally falls asleep he turns his head from side to side (sometimes quite violently), sometimes shaking his head on one side - it is almost like he is trying to get comfortable and I can see he gets more and more frustrated the longer this carries on.
Can anyone suggest why he could be doing this and how can I get him to sleep longer again?
Also, during the day he only sleeps in the pram or car (we are out and about) and mostly no longer than 45 minutes.
Sorry for rambling!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you
