Daytime Napping questions

Hi there, you helped me out a while back and supported me through weaning from a dummy and swaddle. We are totally over the challenges we had and now i'm pleased to say that my little boy is sleeping brilliantly at night.
Recently daytime naps are becoming less consistent and i'm wondering whether he is ready to drop a nap. Our day goes something like this:

7am Wake Up

7.15am Porridge or Weetabix with fruit followed by 6oz milk

9am (ish) Nap for 1 hour. Its only recently that Benji goes down at 9am - he was earlier anything from 8.20am. At this nap I tend to wake him after an hour.

10.15am Snack (Banana or Melon)

11.30am Solid Lunch / Fruit / Water

12.15-12.30pm Nap. The duration of this nap is really variable in length and is anything from 40 - 90+ minutes. Yesterday he slept from 12.30 - 2pm, the day before from 12.15-1.15pm.

2-2.30pm 6oz Milk

3.30-4.30pm he will go down for his last nap. This is a shorter catnap. Used to be 45 mins, but may be shorter. When he goes down depends on when he got up from lunchtime sleep. Yesterday he had 25 minutes in the car from 4.30-4.55pm. This nap can be the hardest to settle him for. He will easily self settle for naps in his cot - this one is trickiest - especially if he's woken late at lunchtime. I cant see him lasting out from 2pm to bedtime without some kid of sleep though.

5-5.30pm Dinner and Fruit/Water

6.15pm Bath/Story

6.45pm 8oz Milk and Sleeping by 7pm.

My questions for you are:
> At what age do babies typically drop down to 2 naps only? What are the signs for this? do you think my little one is ready from what ive described?
> How would I go about moving to two naps to ensure my little one is not totally exhausted by his bedtime? He is normally tired by bedtime even with a nap at the end of the day. Yesterday even after a late catnap he was eye rubbing and tired by bedtime.
> It is harder to get my boy to nap whilst we are out, any tips?

Thanks - your help in fine tuning would be greatly appreciated
