Starting again
We had some success last month with pupdcd, but over christmas he picked up a tummy bug which resulting in nappy changing every hour and all our hard work going to pot. Just to get some sleep we have been using a dummy and co-sleeping.
He seems to be better now, but we cannot get him to stay in his cot past 1 so intend to start pupdcd again tonight. Have a couple of questions from our recent attempts.
1) If we are able to settle him with sshh pat, he seems to need us to do it for up to half an hour for him to stay asleep. The second we stop he wakes up. However, it does not extend his sleep time and he will still wake up after an hour of us starting shh patt however long we do it for. Is there a good way of limiting the time we shh patt for?
2) If he does go off to sleep using shh patt or pupd, he sleeps for about 10 minuites and then wakes up and we have to start again. We normally leave him a couple of mins before going in but he does start crying. This can happen 2 - 3 times over 1 wake up period (total time about an hour and a half) before we get him to stay asleep but only for an hour! Is this because he is using us as a prop? How do we start to reduce this?
3) When he wakes up at 1 (it is 1 every night so habit), he normally has got in a funny position. We have rolled up blanket at his side, but he still need us to go in and re-poisition him a bit. By doing this we are not allowing him to self settle but not sure how best to handle?
