Day time sleep pattern
Harry is almost 11wks old now and has just moved into his cot a nite, which has been fairly successful so far. I use a controled crying method, lying him down when he seems tired giving him his dummy, stroking his head, using soothing tones, and a nite light that plays lullabies, then walking away, returning every 5 mins when he cries.Giving him his dummy back, stroking his head, reassuring him, then walking away again This usually works after returning 2 or 3 times.
He can sleep from 5 to 6 hrs b4 waking for a nite time feed, and then generally sleeps again for another 3 to 4 hrs.
He has been bottle fed for 4 weeks now and currently has 4oz every 4hrs.
I've started feeding him at about 8am, 12, 4 and 8pm, as a way of begining to get him into a routine.
During the day i use the same controlled crying method when putting him in his cot, with his mobile instead of nite light/lullibies, but he will only sleep for 30 mins exactly, waking up upset as he is still tired, but fights going back off to sleep. And is then miserable and the cycle starts all over again.
He will sleep for lengthy periods of time, only is he's been in his carseat either attatched to the pushchair or being in the car.
He is also always very unsettled when we go to other peoples houses, as he is tired and won't sleep.
I find this to be very stressful, and embarissing when i go to friends and families homes. As i know why he is upset but just wish he'd sleep longer as i know that this would make him happier.
I don't want to cradle him all the time, as i want him to learn to sleep and refresh himself alone.
If this continues i'm considering using the PUPDCD method, and do you think i should dump the dummy or just limit it to his cot only?
