How do you get day time naps back on track?
My little boy is 4months and 3 weeks old and is generally a pretty good sleeper - at the moment. However, in the last week the day time nap routine seems to have completely fallen by the wayside. I used to put Leo down for naps at 9.00am for 30-45 minutes, then 12.00pm for 2 hours and then a short 15 minute nap somewhere between 4.15pm and 5.00pm. Often I would time the naps to be either in the cot or in the car on the way somewhere or if we were going for lunch and walking in the pram. The 9.00am nap is nearly always at home in the cot. Over the last week Leo has started really crying each time I put him down for a nap - less so in the car or pram but loads in the cot. I have responded to this in one of three ways - either leaving him for a bit and then going back in, leaning close to him in th cot and ssshhing him in his ear or picking him up and rocking him. However, each of these is not entirely successful and it can take upto 30 minutes to get him to settle and sometimes I then give up and just abandon the nap - for fear of the impact on the rest of the day eg feeds. I don't know how best to tackle this and am worried that I have given Leo bad habits....but equally don't want to traumatise him for the sake of a nap! Any help would be really appreciated. I like Leo being in a routine but am not sure if he is just trying his luck or if his napping needs have changed? It is worth noting that he sleeps from 7.00pm-10.30pm when he feeds and then through to 7.00am though he often wakes during the night around 4.30am ish - so any help with this would be good too! Thank you....
